Aaron Rodgers is tackling a major rumor about his family rift.
In a forthcoming book about the New York Jets quarterback, Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers—out Aug. 20—writer Ian O'Connor shared insight into Aaron's estrangement from his family, and confirmed that it was not related to his ex girlfriend, Olivia Munn.
Aaron—who dated Olivia for three years before splitting in 2017—is quoted as saying that his family issues were "deep rooted," according to an excerpt shared by People. The 40-year-old added that the Newsroom alum "has nothing to do with all the years" of estrangement.
E! News has reached to Olivia's rep for comment, but has not heard back.
Still, that hasn't stopped Aaron's family—including father Ed Rodgers and older brother Luke Rodgers—from suggesting Olivia was behind the estrangement.
Luke first discussed the family rift when his youngest brother Jordan Rogers was competing on season 12 of The Bachelorette in 2016.
"It pains both of us not to have that relationship," he explained on the episode to bachelorette JoJo Fletcher—whom Jordan married in 2022. "We miss our brother. We just are trusting that God brings things full circle. And just wish that everything would just get back to us being a family."
Ed confirmed that things that soured between Aaron and his family in a 2017 New York Times interview, explaining that the issues started a "few months" after he began dating Olivia.
He noted that Aaron had not spoken to him, his brothers or his mother Darla Rodgers since 2014, adding, "Fame can change things."
But Olivia has long denied that her relationship with Aaron had anything to do with his estrangement from his family.
As she told Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM show in 2018, "He hadn't spoken to the parents and one brother for like eight months before we started dating."
In fact, the 44-year-old—who is now married to John Mulaney, with whom she shares on Malcolm, 2—said she actually tried to encourage Aaron to have an "honest conversation" with them. Recalling that it seemed to work, she noted, "They had a nice conversation and then they started coming out my first year when I was in Green Bay in 2014."
"I just think it's really important to try to mend things in a family and I encouraged that," she continued. "I do believe that family and fame and success can be really complicated if their dreams are connected to your success."
And as for where Aaron and his family stand today? The NFL star is hopeful that there is a road to reconciliation, especially after he and his father briefly reconnected last year at a golf tournament.
"I think that was what needed to happen," he is quoted as saying in the book. "That was a special moment."
And he believes his dad could be the key to mending the family rift.
"It's just timing, just timing," Aaron explained. "Every time I think it's getting closer some weird things happen. But I would like a relationship with my dad for sure."
